Bishnupur, August 09 2026:
Arrests of Pambei-led UNLF leaders and cadres by the police and security agencies may affect the political talks between the group and the Government of India, said Indigenous Peoples Organisation Manipur (IPOM) Bishnupur District Committee's general secretary Ningthoujam Bhumeshwar.
He said this during a press meet organised by FOCS Bishnupur District Committee, IPOM Bishnupur District Committee, TYDA Toubul and KACTL Khoijuman at Ningthoukhong today.
Addressing media persons, Bhumeshwar said the Government and its agencies must cease all attempts to arrest leaders and members of the Pambei-led UNLF.

On August 7, an MPA cadre of the group named Sangkar was arrested in Jiribam by the police.
Such arrests undermine and cast shadow on the political talk between the group and the Government of India, and also cause confusion among the public, he said.
Several other leaders and members of the group who were arrested despite the group entering into a political talk have also not been released yet.
Such arrests if persisted would cast doubt on the intention of the Government of India and Manipur Government, he added.
Further, the recent of the group's cadre has also raised suspicion on the minds of the people whether the Police Department and agencies are attempting to derail the talk with GoI .
For the political talk to have meaning, the Government must release the arrested members of the Pambei-led UNLF without any conditions attached, he said.
FOCS Bishnupur District Committee's Women Wing general secretary RK Nomita, who was present, also asked the Government and the police to release Sangkar.
She said civil bodies including FOCS and IPOM and the public will support Jiribam CSOs in all their course of actions to secure Sangkar's release.
KUCMA and MYKKAE have also demanded Sangkar's release.
