Dimapur, June 26 2015 :
After a series of "marathon talks" with the Narendra Modi government in the past few months, the collective leaders of NSCN (IM), chairman Isak Chishi Swu and general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah are returning to the people for consultation.
Well placed sources informed that the two NSCN (IM) leaders are likely to start consultation with Naga frontal organizations, tribe hohos, intellectuals and public leaders by the end of July or early August.
This latest development could be read as an indication that there is appreciable progress in the ongoing peace talks.
Mention may be made here that the format of talks between the government of India and the NSCN (IM) "has been changed" with both sides agreeing to expedite the talks to find an amicable solution as soon as possible.
The practice of holding one or two rounds of talks without tangible achievements is done away with.
After this new development, the government's interlocutor and the leaders of the NSCN (I-M) are meeting more frequently and the ultimate aim is not to count the number of rounds of talks, but to find an amicable solution as soon as possible.
The NSCN-IM leaders have been told that they can get in touch with the government's interlocutor whenever they want to discuss any point.
Similarly, the government's interlocutor is also getting in touch with the NSCN leaders whenever required.
With the Modi government the talks are more like "business meetings with a definite purpose," sources said.
The Prime Minister Office is directly involved in the talks which was not the case in the Congress led UPA regime where Ministry of Home Affairs took the proactive role.
Some months ago the government had already made its points clear to the leadership of the NSCN (IM).
The NSCN (IM) leaders too expressed their limitations on certain issues, the sources added.
