Senior Citizens to halt strike, blockades through law courts

ATSUM should immediately withdraw the indefinite economic blockade imposed along the national highways started since the midnight of June 22 else legal means would be used to challenge the imposition said Khaidem Mani secretary of Senior Citizens for Society.
Khaidem Mani along with other members of the association was addressing the press at the conference hall of Manipur Press Club.
He added that the act of ATSUM is against the interest of the general public of both hills and valley.
He said that the supreme court of India had ruled that strike and blockades are against the law following a High court ruling in a case in Kerala.
He also said that as per the Supreme court order strikes and blockades will be considered unlawful across the State and the Country at large.
Democratic form of agitation should be taken up to address any issue.
Strikes and blockades encourage black marketers and deprive rights for general public.
It also affects overall functioning of the State.
For all the reasons the senior citizen for society had appeal to the organisations not to call any form of strikes and blockade in the State, Khaidem Mani stated.
He also said that all measures have been taken up to fight against the ill practice in the State.
The senior citizen for society also condemns the assault on the president of Mao Council Kohima Unit and ransacking of two shops owned by Mao people at Kohima by volunteers of SADO and SAYO.
The senior citizen members also said that the government should demarcate the land borders between Nagaland and Manipur for bringing peace and harmony between the two states or prevent from untoward incidents.
