Imphal, June 26 2015 :
A non-Manipuri hawker was caught by volunteers of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) for selling products printed with "advance manufacturing date" at Singjamei Sougrakpam Leikai in Imphal West on Friday.
The hawker was identified as Tunakumar Paswan from Bhojpur, Bihar.
He was caught by the DESAM volunteers when he came to collect money there for the items he had sold three days back.
The product which he was selling was "Good knight Liquid Refill," manufactured by Godrej Consumer Products Limited.
The manufacturing date of the said product is July 2015 .
The said person is now presently staying at a rented house in Nagamapal Singjubum Leirak.
According to him, the product he had sold was brought by one girl from Kangpokpi.
He and other hawkers bought it from that girl at Rs 47 per piece and they sold it to shops in Imphal at prices ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 53 .
Meanwhile, the interesting part is that he came to Manipur only three months back, but he was holding his driving licence which was issued on July 9, 2014.He got the driving licence through one of his friends called Rahul Kumar by paying Rs 800 while he was still in Bihar.
In a press meet held at DESAM office at Keishampat , the vice president Arambam Thoi Thoi said , "It is very unfortunate that in Manipur people can get driving licence easily without any problem." He warned that if any item with advance manufacturing date is found selling in future, the shop owner must be held responsible for it and appealed to the department concerned to take up action over such incidents.
Tunakumar Paswan was later handed over to Imphal West Police Station for further investigation.
