Day for tortured victims held

As part of observing international day in support of victims of torture in many parts of the world the day was also being observed at Manipur Press Club jointly organised by WAD, UNMM, NEDF, COWF and DVSF under the theme "rights to rehabilitation".
Senior citizens for society Manipur president L Lalit, NEDF member Kh Norendro Meitei and WAD Secretary Sobita Mangshatabam attended in as presidium members while Advocate L Savananda and HRI executive director W Joykumar attended as resource persons respectively.
Speaking on the occasion M Sobita alleged that the government has no plan to introduce rehabilitation centre to the tortured victims.
Sobita said the victims are mostly in the armed conflict areas The victims are increasing and it needs to form policy by the government, Sobita added.
The meeting resolved to urged the government to open rehabilitation centre for the victims of torture; to identify the number of traumatic patient and bring them in main stream; urged to curve the violence which in rise every day and urged to repeal AFSPA, 1958 which is the root cause of the rise in number torture.
