Evicted families demand housing, land

Thoubal, July 26 2022:
The families evicted from Waithou Protected Forest Area staged a protest at Waithou Khongnang Kachin today demanding the State administration to make arrangements for their housing.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, Naorem Ibemcha, secretary, Waithou Meira Paibi Apunba Lup shared that since the eviction took place on June 12, the affected families and their children have been left without permanent shelter.
In view of these dire circumstances, she urged the administration to provide, these families with some land where they can settle and carry on with their lives.
It is worth noting that the affected families temporarily took shelter at Haoreibi College relief camp and are now living at the relief camp set up at Waithou Khongnang Kachin with the support of local meira paibis and clubs.
