CM assures special priority to Agniveers

The state observed
Kargil Vijay Diwas, which
commemorates India's victory
over Pakistan in the Kargil
War in 1999, at 1st Battalion
Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall
on Tuesday with chief minister
N Biren Singh attending the
function as chief guest, rural
development and panchayati raj
minister Yumnam Khemchand
Singh as president and health
& family welfare minister Dr
Sapam Ranjan Singh as guest
of honour.
Speaking on the occasion,
CM N Biren recalled the valour
and courage shown by the Indian
soldiers during the Kargil
War driving away the Pakistani
forces by recapturing mountain
heights that had been seized by
Pakistani intruders.
Honouring the sacrifices
made by Indian soldiers to save
the integrity and sovereignty of
the country, he mentioned that
Indian soldiers had overcome
many challenges, camping at
extremely cold regions and the
country lost 527 soldiers including
many Manipuris during the
war which went on for 74 days.
The CM maintained that India
had witnessed considerable
progress in every field, after
2014, under the leadership
of Prime Minister Narendra
Modi.
He continued that as
the country progresses in its
path of development, many
challenges including enmity
from neighbouring countries
would create impediments to
the growth.
As such, people of the country should maintain unity and sense of brotherhood and should be ready to face any eventualities on our way towards development.
Considering its importance, the central government has come up with the Agnipath Scheme, he maintained.
N Biren further informed that the Agniveer Recruitment for all the districts of Manipur, which was earlier scheduled to be held at Dimapur, Nagaland, has been rescheduled to be held at Leimakhong from November 23 to December 5 .
Youth of the state won't face the problems of going outside the state as they would have the opportunity to appear for the Agniveer Recruitment Rally in the state itself, he said and also informed the state government would provide special priority to Agniveers during the recruitment in state's active services.
Expressing happiness on Manipur bagging the top position in the North East and Hill State category in the third edition of NITI Aayog's India Innovation Index, 2021, he lauded his ministers, MLAs and all officials of the state government for their hard work and dedication towards good governance and welfare of the people.
Biren also confided that the government has prepared plans for repair and construction of roads of Imphal along with declaring that the government will never compromise on development of roadways infrastructure in the state.
Referring to the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign to celebrate the 75th year of India's independence, the chief minister appealed to the public to hoist the National Flag with pride and with the thought of one nation.
As a part of the observance, artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal presented a patriotic song.
The commemorative event was also attended by ministers, MLAs, chief secretary, director general of police, high ranking civil and police officials among others.
Meanwhile, Bishnupur district administration observed Kargil Vijay Diwas at the conference hall of DC Office on Tuesday during which a two minute-long silence was observed as a mark of respect for the sacrifices made by the Indian soldiers in the Kargil War.
Bishnupur deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram, ADC H Bobby Sharma, AC to DC Ejaj Hassan, district level officials and staff of the district administration attended the observance.
On the other hand, All Manipur Gorkha Ex-Servicemen (Def/CAPF) Association (AMGESA) led by its president GP Ramudhamu observed Kargil Vijay Diwas at its Vijaynagar, Kanglatongbi office on Tuesday.
In a release, AMGESA stated that other Gorkha CSOs such as MGWU, BHAGOP and AMGSU, senior Gorkha veterans, advisors, members, widows, 'Veer Naaris' and children attended the programme and paid tributes to the Kargil War Heroes, who had made supreme sacrifices for the nation.
As part of the observance, candles were lighted and two-minute silence was observed, it added.
