State Handloom Expo concludes

Imphal, July 26 2022:
The two-week Handloom Expo-2022-23 organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans' CS Ltd (AWAS) under the aegis of NHDP and Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of textiles at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi concluded on Tuesday.
Speaking at the valedictory function as the chief guest, national awardee M Radhamani pointed out the huge difference between machine-made and hand-woven products and noted with regret that hand-woven products, which used to be common in every household has now become a rarity.
Stating that hand-woven products have unique qualities and high value, she urged the weavers to focus in production of hand woven items.
It is unfortunate that hand woven products are not available in the handloom mela, she maintained.
The function presided over by AWAS president A Ronika was attended by Weavers' Service Centre deputy director and HoO HK Baro, MSME officer on special duty Gaihomlung Kamei and District Handloom and Textiles, Imphal East project manager Th Ibemcha as guests of honour.
