Thoubal, July 26 2022:
A sit-in protest was staged on Tuesday at Waithou Khongnang Kachin by people evicted recently from Waithou Protected Forest Area in pursuance of their demand that the state government allot land for the homeless evictees.
Speaking to media persons Waithou Meira Paibi Apunba Lup secretary Naorem Ibemcha informed that several poor people whose houses were dismantled during eviction drive of June 12 have no place to stay and are wandering about in search for a proper roof above their head.
She thus appealed to the government led by chief minister N Biren to provide the homeless people permanent land plots so as to help them sustain decent livelihood.
Ibemcha continued that the evicted victims were earlier staying at Lilong Haoreibi College, but shifted to the relief camp set up at Waithou Khongnang Kachin ground by local meira paibi group and club.
As the camp lacks basic amenities, both children and elderly persons facing serious inconveniences, she maintained and reiterated that the government take necessary steps to address their plight.
