SDCC conducts surprise check at Senapati Bazaar

Senapati District Consumers' Club (SDCC), Manipur carried out a surprise check at Senapati Bazaar on Tuesday to curb unethical trade practices in contravention of food safety and standard weighing machines.
The inspection team included representatives of District Food Safety Administration, Karong Senapati Town Committee and CSOs including the Naga People's Organisation, Senapati District Students' Association
and Senapati District Women's Association.
Speaking to media persons before commencement of surprise raid, the team suggested that a suitable site for slaughter facility in the town should be identified in coordination with the district administration, Senapati.
The SDCC members also stated that a proposal had been made for keeping the Standard Weight and Measurement headquarters at Senapati, but reportedly, no
action has been taken by the authority concerned till date.
Mention may be made that the SDCC together with the Standard Weight and Measurement Department had also checked slaughter houses in the past.
owever, with some complaints coming from the public about lesser quantity of meat in the town, the SDCC was compelled to recheck the weighing machines in the market.
The team visited all slaughter houses operating
in the town and issued stern warning to the owners on any misuse of weighing machine and made them aware about the possible penalties with fine if one is caught.
The team also asked all consumers to check if weighing machine is correctly used, while they come to purchase anything in the bazaar.
During the raid, the team also seized some weighing machines which were tampered and some stones used as weights from various shops.
The team also seized different edibles that were expired or had exceeded the given period of best usage from 14 different grocery shops worth about Rs 40,000 and warned of punitive action
against repeated offence.
The Town Committee had reportedly asked all shops operating in the town to install a signboard of their stores in the past, subsequently, the team cautioned such shops to install them
within the month of July.
While visiting the women market (Apfii Saliki), the vendors were checked of their permit issued from District Food Safety Administration .
