Imphal, July 26 2022:
At least six student organisations have urged the Members of the House to discuss formulation of State Language Policy and establishment of Language Commission and Transliterate Committee to promote Manipuri language during the second session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The student organisations also urged the Government to set up Manipur State Population Commission and prepare the National Register of Citizen (NRC) to save the indigenous people of Manipur.
In a joint statement, the six organisations viz AIMS, AMSU, DESAM, MSF, KSA and SUK said that Meitei Mayek, the official script of Manipur, was introduced as a subject in 2006 and the same is now taught at the Master's degree.
He claimed that no reference books, however, are published in Meitei Mayek and it causes great inconvenience to students who take Meitei Mayek as a subject in pursuing their studies.
Continuing that influx of a large number of illegal immigrants is another issue as it creates population imbalance in the State, the joint statement urged the State Government to establish Manipur State Population Commission and prepare the National Register of Citizen (NRC) to identify the people settling in Manipur illegally and take up necessary actions.
The student organisations also highlighted the need to ban the sale of machine made clothes sourced from other States which has a similar pattern as that of "our traditional clothes" and seek Intellectual Property Rights for the traditional clothes of the State.
It further urged the State Government to implement the War on Drugs campaign sincerely and incorporate chapters in the school syllabus about the ill effects of drug misuse.
Continuing that many educational institutions don't have regular Principals, the joint statement urged the State Government to appoint regular Principals where there is vacancy and also fill the vacant posts of teaching and non teaching staff in schools and colleges.
