Imphal, May 09 2022:
Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) chairman Akham Joykumar has drawn the attention of the state government on schools teaching non-prescribed books, despite repeated notices cautioning against the same.
He made the statement during the felicitation function of new office bearers of All Manipur Press Association (AMPA), organised at Lions Service Centre, Sangaiprou on Monday.
Joykumar said that BSEM alone is not at fault in the controversy surrounding delayed delivery of textbooks to students.
While explaining that the state government is responsible preparation and delivery for Class I-VIII and BSEM for Class IX and X, he also contended that authorities concerned often failed to provide the total number of students enrolled in Class IX and X, thereby causing delay in delivering the books.
He then lauded the roles played by the various state printing presses which have been able to print books with quality on par with that of other developed states, while urging the printing presses to continue working hard to help deliver books to the students in time.
The function was attended BSEM secretary Dr Sapam Mangijao and AMPA president Senjam Surjit.
