Trucks stranded as NH-37 culvert collapses

Many loaded trucks heading towards the state's capital from Jiribam as well as Jiribam-bound empty trucks rerhained stranded as a newly constructed culvert along the NH-37 road near Noney collapsed on Monday.
Saddened over collapse of the culvert and subsequent disruption caused to vehicular movement on both sides of the key highway, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union general secretary Maimom Anil Meitei told media persons that the newly constructed culvert was completed around two months back but some part of the culvert collapsed Monday thereby halting traffic along the highway.
In view of the said high way serving as lifeline for people of the state, the union pressurised government from time to time to develop the route.
However, those responsible for overseeing the highway not only took unprecedentedly long time to even construct the culverts but also failed to maintain quality thereby periodically affecting transportation of essential goods into the state, he Said and appealed to authority concerned to repair the culvert at the earliest to ensure resumption of normal traffic along the highway.
