Road accident leaves 1 dead, 1 injured, 1 missing

Imphal, May 09 2022:
At least one person got killed and one injured, while another remained missing after a Tata Ultra 1012 truck (White) carrying water fell into a deep gorge at a location between Tengnoupal and Khongkhang under Moreh PS along the Imphal-Moreh road on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Maibam Sanjoy Meitei (42) s/o (L) Gulamjat Meitei of Mantripukhri Maning Leikai and the injured as Laishram Loken (60) s/o (L) Kulachandra of Heingang Panthoibi Lampak.
He was immediately taken to Tengnoupal PHC for emergency treatment.
Meanwhile, the missing third occupant has been identified as Moirangthem Domen Singh (27) s/o (L) Baba Singh of Sonia, Cachar.
As per reports culled from the spot, a team led by Special Commando Unit and Railway SP Th Krishnatombi launched rescue operation after finding that the truck had met with an accident along Imphal-Moreh road around 11.15 am Monday.
The team also rushed injured Loken to Tengnoupal PHC.
According to a police report, a white Tata Ultra 1012 (AS-25-BC- 3922) carrying the packaged drinking water of Likla met with an accident a few distance ahead of Khongkhang village.
The truck had three occupants including the driver at the time of accident.
On receiving news of the accident, a combined team of Moreh Police and Tengnoupal PS rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation, including recovery of the truck late in the evening.
The team was able to recover the lifeless body of Sanjoy.
However, Domen's whereabouts could not be located.
Tengnoupal District Police attempted to retrieve the truck with a crane but was unsuccessful.
They engaged another crane from BRTF and tried to recover the vehicle well into the evening.
The cause of the accident is suspected to be brake failure.
