Imphal, May 09 2022:
The office building of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Bungte Chiru became operational today.
The SDO office which covers 28 villages was opened in 2014-15 but the building had no office of its own.
Later the State Government constructed a building and it was inaugurated virtually by Chief Minister N Biren on October 11, 2021 .
The SDO office building was constructed by PWD at the cost of Rs 299 lakh.
A simple function was held today which marked the official opening of the office building.
As such, the SDO and his staff started attending office at the building from today.
The SDO office is located at Bungte Chiru village, Kangpokpi district.
The building opening ceremony was attended by Relief and Disaster Management Joint Secretary and Bungte Chiru Sub-Division Prabhari A Shivadas Sharma, Bungte Chiru village chairman Ningjankung Thoitak, Bungte Chiru SDO T Opendro and Saitu AC MLA Haokholet Kipgen as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Haokholet Kipgen noted that some tribes/communities have presented declarations to the Chief Minister proclaiming their respective areas as drug free zone.
He called upon the people of Saitu AC to submit a similar declaration to the Chief Minister.
Even though poppy and ganja plantations can fetch big profits, it can wipe out an entire generation, he said.
He then suggested all the people to explore alternative sources of income.
