Imphal, October 16 2022:
Demonstrating their steadfast stand against lifting prohibition, the Coalition Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA), Nupi Samaj and different women organisations continue to stage sit-in protests in different parts of the State, today.
Today, protest demonstrations were staged at Phumlou in Imphal West, Nambol Kha Jiri in Bishnupur and Kakwa in Imphal West.
Some common demands which were raised at the three protest sites were to roll back the decision taken by the Cabinet to legalize liquor on September 20 and save the people from drug addiction and alcoholism.
The protesters also claimed that legalising liquor will only increase the burden being faced by the people, especially children and women due to rise in domestic violence and premature deaths of many.
The protest demonstrations at Phumlou Keithel was supported by All Phumlou Meira Paibi while the one at Nambol Kha Jiri Mamang Leikai was staged along with Ereipak Enat Chanura Loinasillon Apunba Lup (EECHAL), Nambol Branch.
Members of Kakwa Sellungba Leikai Women Welfare Association took part in the sit-in at Kakwa Laishram Sellungba Leikai.
