Imphal, October 16 2022:
Art and Culture commissioner M Joy said that younger generation of artistes should explore folk music in their career so as to promote the indigenous art of the state.
He was attending as chief guest of the 33rd foundation day celebration of Lalit Kala Sangam, which also marked the culmination of a five-day-long festival of classical, folk and light music held at Dharmalaya Hall, Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai.
Speaking on the occasion, M Joy pointed out that fusion of folk and modern music gives a unique taste of music with the blend of old with modern music.
However, entering in the field with little knowledge could also discourage listeners as well as others from experimenting the blend.
Though modern music is popular, folk music also has its own taste and as such younger generation of artistes should explore the beauty of folk music and work on it in order to keep the indigenous art form alive, he said.
Music is an insepa rable part of human life.
It adds the beauty to the nature and increase happiness, and at the same time it soothes a grieving heart.
It is the responsibility of the artistes to bring development in the field of music and strive to bring out quality works, the commissioner maintained.
In his address, Lalit Kala Sangam (academic council) chairman B Netachandra Sharma said that musical talent might be inborn but the artistes need to hone their skill through education and training as well as research.
The academy is providing two-year diploma courses on music Geetanjali Junior and Geetanjali Senior.
Aspiring artistes should at least complete two-year diploma courses, he said.
