Kangpokpi, October 16 2022:
Unknown armed miscreants abducted the president of All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union Manipur, Charhajare unit Roshan Uprety from Charhajare bazar in Kangpokpi district on Sunday around 6.30 pm.
In protest against the abduction, agitated AMGSU volunteers and locals enforced impromptu blockade of the National Highway-2 at Charhajare section.
The kidnapped president of AMGSU Charhajare unit is also working as a teacher at Sanatan Sanskrit Vidyalaya, Charhajare, and as treasurer of Navin Gorkha Youth Club, Charhajare.
Speaking to media persons, AMGSU president LB Adhikari informed that unknown armed miscreants, who came in a white car from Kangpokpi side, abducted Roshan Uprety and fled towards Imphal.
Roshan was with one of his friends when the incident happened.
When his friend tried to rescue him, the perpetrators fired a round and whisked him away, he added.
A large enraged mob gathered at Charhajare bazar after the incident and attempted to disrupt the traffic flow by imposing a flash bandh along the National Highway 2 .
However, AMGSU leaders led by its president LB Adhikari with the help of Kangpokpi police attempted to pacify the angry mob.
"We are not in favour of the sudden blockade of the highway over the incident as it will cause untold miseries and hardships to innocent commuters," acknowledged Adhikari.
"However, if our member Roshan Uprety is not released safe and sound without any conditions within 24 hours, we will decide our own course of action," he cautioned, while drawing the attention of the government and authorities concerned to find and rescue the abducted president.
Meanwhile, AMGSU denounced abduction of Roshan Uprety of Charhajare Village by some people from his shop at Charhajare.
In a release, AMGSU said that the miscreants who came in a vehicle whisked away Roshan Uprety at gunpoint and his whereabouts is not known yet.
