Training on food fortification held in Thoubal

A training cum awareness programme on food fortification organised by Food Safety Administration of Thoubal for staff and employees of various departments was held on Thursday at the conference hall of CMO, Thoubal.
Inaugurating the programme, CMO Dr Y Nokul Singh said that the world is witnessing changes rapidly and the times we live in today is very different compared to the earlier days.
With the faster rate of development and subsequent changes in the environment, people are suffering from many new kinds of diseases with majority of the ailments caused by malnutrition.
To prevent such health problems food fortification is being initiated to increase nutritive value of food, he said.
During the power point presentation on fortified foods, designated officer Yumnam Satyajit explained that fortified foods will increase the nutritive value as micro nutrients like iron, vitamins, minerals and iodine are added to various food items like milk and salt among others.
He appealed the trainees to use fortified foods which have +F logo on the cover of the food items.
The training was attended by staff and employees of midday meals of School Education and staff of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution.
