Joint meeting settles ambulance attack case

A joint meeting of different CSOs of Chandel and Kakching districts held in the presence of Kakching MLA M Rameshwar reached an agreement with regard to the attack on two ambulances of Chandel district hospital, on their way from JNIMS after procuring blood for transfu-sion, at Kakching Lamkhai resulting damage caused to windshield of the ambulances and injury to the drivers.
The joint meeting was held for two days since Wednes-day before coming to an un-derstanding and resolving the incident.
The meeting held at K Koshang Memorial Community Hall in Khang-shim village was attended by MLA Rameshwar, mem-bers of Chandel Naga Peo-ple's Organisation (CNPO), an apex body of nine Naga tribes in Chandel district, led by its president David Boyes, Kakching Municipal Council caretaker Naorem Sanjitku-mar, members of Committee for Peace and Social Harmony Kakching, Peace Committee Kakching, Senior Citizens' Forum Kakching, and lead-ers of different Naga tribes in Chandel.
The agreement between the two sides was appended by MLA Rameshwar, CNPO president David Boyes, mem-ber of Committee for Peace and Social Harmony Kakch-ing Naorem Sanjitkumar, and Maring Uparup Assembly president K Yaima Maring.
Both sides condemned the attack on the ambulances in the strongest term, re-solved to slap penalty as per Naga customary law on the perpetrators, and bring an understanding for peaceful co-existence and emotional integration in the spirit of understanding and compro-mise as Manipuris.
Both sides also agreed to refrain from any activities which might hurt the sentiments of one another.
According to MLA Ramesh-war, the joint meeting was held to resolve the situation following the unfortunate incident in Kakching Lam-khai area after the May 28 incident in Sugnu.
One of the two injured drivers belongs to Maring and the other to Anal.
He made an appeal to live peacefully for the unity and integrity of the state.
CNPO president David Boyes expressed gratitude to the MLA and CSOs in Ka-kching for honouring Naga customary law and resolving the issue amicably.
He ac-knowledged that the May 28 incident occurred in the heat of the public movement and urged all concerned in the two districts to refrain from any such activities in the future.
