15 hurt in bomb attack, firing in Singda area

Imphal, June 02 2023:
At least 15 people suffered gunshot wounds and bomb shrap-nel injuries after uspected Kuki militants opened indiscriminate firing and triggered explosions in Kangchup Chingkhong and Singda Kadangband area on Friday.
On Friday morning, a group of armed persons attempted to set fire to Apunlok Resort at Phayeng Kang - chup.
As state security forces rushed into the area, they were met with a barrage of bullets.
The state forces also retaliated resulting in gunfight at Kangchup Chingkhong and Singda Kadangband.
Some of the nearby locals with licensed guns also joined the fight and fired at the attackers suspected to be Kuki militants.
However, the perpetrators ex-ploded a bomb that injured scores of civilians.
The injured were im-mediately taken to RIMS and Raj Medicity for treatment.
Around 15 people have been reported injured during the gunfight which went on till late evening.
Of the 15 injured, two have been admitted to Raj Medicity.
They are Lourembam Bungbung (38) of Khurai Thangjam Leikai (gunshot injury) and Mangsatabam Inaobi (51) of Kangchup Kharang (shrap-nel injury).
The other 13, who were admitted to RIMS, include one Ningthou-jam Tomba (47) of Laingam Khul Lamsang Bazar (shrapnel injury), Puyam.
Gulip (28) of Lamsang Ba-zar (shrapnel injury), Ningthou-jam Tomba (42) of Phayeng Sabal Leikai (shrapnel injury), lhingujam Meiraba (18) of Singda Kadangband Part-1 (gunshot), Salam Ratan (57) of Lamsang (gunshot), L Roman (38) of Yumnam Khunou (gunshot), T Malemnganba (25) of Lairenkabi (gunshot), James Thounaojam (32) of Kwakeithel (gunshot), Yumnam Roshan (30) of Lamsang, Kh Dilip (30), L Sanjit (29) of Heingang, I.Noren Singh Singh (48) of Sagol-band and one 23-year old man from Yumnam Khunou.
Meanwhile, Social Welfare minister H Dingo visited the injured on Friday.
Speaking on the sidelines, the minister urged for concerted efforts in restoring peace to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
On the other hand, state forces engaged in a gun battle with Kuki militants in Tangjeng on Friday.
However, no injuries were reported.
Three teams of special commando and 12 teams of Bishnupur district police commandos have been deployed and maintaining vigil in the area.
