Imphal, June 02 2023:
Janata Dal-United (JDU), Manipur state unit said that withdrawal of Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militants is the need of the hour to restore peace and nor-malcy in the state.
Addressing media per-sons on Friday at JDU Manipur office near 2MR gate, party's state vice president Kh Loken said Union home minister Amit Shah's statement before leaving the state regarding SoO was not clear thereby failing to create peaceful atmo-sphere in the state.
Amit Shah's mere announce-ment to compensate victims and assurance to rehabilitate displaced people were not satis-factory to the people.
As such, violence continues in the peripheral valley areas even after Amit Shah left the state, he said adding that peace and normalcy will return in the state only after the withdrawal of SoO.
JDU state unit spokes-person Dr Nimaichand Luwang, who also attend-ed the press conference, said people living in peripheral valley areas have suffered much due to SoO.
Every day there are reports of SoO Kuki militants targeting inno-cent villagers and torch-ing their houses.
Due to SoO, Central forces do not use force against Kuki militants and remain as muted spectator when Kuki militants burn hous-es of innocent villagers.
Central forces' inaction against Kuki militants angered villagers and demanding withdrawal of SoO, he said adding that JDU fully supports people's demand.
Party's spokesperson Samuel Jendai also said both the Central and state governments must re-open NH-2 at the earliest to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential items to the people.
The press conference was also attended by JDU state president Ksh Biren, vice president 0 Nabakishore and general secretary Doren.
