Imphal, June 02 2023:
The People's Alliance for Peace and Progress Manipur (PAPPM) has categorically stated that the ongoing crisis is not a communal conflict but external aggression and narco-terrorism.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, PAPPM president M Bobby Meetei said that a team of PAPPM went to Delhi on May 5 and tried to sensitise the political leaders as well as the people living in the National capital about the violence raging through the State.
It was pointed out that the extensive violence was a fall-out of mass influx, poppy cultivation, illegal encroachment into reserved and protected forests, close nexus between Myanmar militants and SoO militants and violation of SoO ground rules, Bobby said.
He asserted that the Government of India needs to acknowledge the crisis as external aggression and a threat to the National security, and act accordingly.
On the other hand, Kuki militants are now fighting with the Government troops of Bangladesh and Myanmar.
The Kukis have been fighting in several countries to create a 'Kukiland', he said.
In their efforts to create a Kukiland, illegal immigrants from Myanmar have been occupying reserved forest areas in the State.
Moreover, they have been indulging in extensive poppy cultivation after clearing vast forest areas, and a big chunk of the money earned from poppy and drug business is used in buying sophisticated weapons, he said.
Now they are engaging in acts of terrorism with a sinister design to disintegrate Manipur.
The present crisis has nothing to do with the Meitei's demand for ST status nor is it a communal conflict, Bobby asserted.
He also mentioned the PIL has been filed at the Supreme Court on May 30 regarding the Kuki militants' narco-terrorism.
