Imphal, June 02 2023:
The Meitei Leepun has appealed to the Government to carry out widespread search operations in both the hill and valley districts simultaneously so as to pave the way for normalcy to return.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Laanjang Hanjaba of Meitei Leepun Shilan Heinam said that they welcome the decision taken by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to carry out search operations to recover the looted arms and ammunition.
Saying that the search operations need to be done at the hills and the valley as arms and ammunition were looted from both the hill and valley districts, he added that the crisis could escalate if the operations are done only in one side.
For peace to be restored, all the displaced Meitei and Kuki people must be brought back to their homes first with adequate security deployment, he said and added that re-entry of illegal immigrants, however, must be prevented.
Shilan appealed to the Centre and the State Government to thoroughly investigate the factors which ignited the ethnic conflict.
Saying that the attack being carried out by Kuki militants is pre-planned and they have even destroyed many Meitei villages using heavy machinery while area domination has been done in some areas, he appealed to the civil society organisations (CSOs) to not call for peace without understanding the ground reality.
Shilan also appealed to the people to not obstruct the movement of Central and State security forces.
