Imphal, June 02 2023:
People's long standing suspicion of the Assam Rifles favouring the Kuki terrorists has turned to be absolutely true, asserted the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) .
Speaking to media persons at their Uripok Yambem Leikai office today, COCOMI media coordinator Somendro Thokchom said that the Assam Rifles' inclination towards the Kuki terrorists has been proven beyond doubt.
It was a matter of grave concern that troops of 37 Assam Rifles today surrounded Sugnu police station and blocked all the entrances of the police station by parking their bullet-proof vehicles in front of the gates, he said.
The AR troops were apparently attempting to intimidate and overpower the State police, Somendro said.
The Government as well as the public need to closely monitor the activities of the Assam Rifles, he said.
The Kuki militants, by continuously attacking Meitei villages in the periphery of Imphal valley, have been openly defying Union Home Minister Amit Shah's warning, he remarked.
It's already late for Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh to take up strong actions against the Kuki militants, Somendro said.
Responding positively to the call of the Union Home Minister to return arms snatched from police, 188 arms were returned from different districts today.
On the other hand, Kuki militants have been continuously attacking Meitei villages using sophisticated weapons, the COCOMI media coordinator pointed out.
He then urged the Government to initiate a judicial enquiry into the violent crisis at the earliest as assured by the Union Home Minister so that all the culprits can be punished promptly.
He also urged for urgent formation of the peace committee to be headed by the Governor so as to bring peace and normalcy at the earliest.
It requires sincere efforts of the Government of India to bring a solution to the month-long crisis, he said and added that since the eruption of the current crisis, the COCOMI has been working hard to calm down the situation but the situation has been only escalating.
This is very distressing to the COCOMI,
he said.
