Man held for stealing ballot paper

Imphal, February 17 2022:
A man has been arrested for stealing a ballot paper from DC office, Imphal West on Thursday.
The arrested man has been identified as H Naresh of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, a representative of RPI-A candidate in Keishamthong AC.
In a release, District Election Officer, Imphal West Th Kirankumar informed that commissioning of EVMs and WPATS for use in Keishamthong AC for the upcoming election was held at Kuranganayani Hall, DC Office complex, Lamphelpat from 10.30 am on Thursday.
During the commissioning exercise, H Naresh covertly pocketed one ballot paper bearing serial No 0001 that was meant to be used for Ballot Unit (BU) of the AC around 12:33 pm.
On finding out that the ballot paper was missing, an enquiry was conducted and the same was verified through CCTV footage.
Thereafter, a complaint was lodged at Lamphel Police station.
The said ballot paper was then recovered and Naresh taken into police custody, he informed.
In order to instil a sense of faith and ensure transparency of the electoral process, the ballot paper bearing SI No 0001 of 12-Keishamthong AC will not be used in the election, the DEO mentioned.
