Imphal, February 17 2022:
The Zou Women Human Rights Organisation (ZOWHRO) and United Zou Organisation (UZO) General Headquarters have strongly condemned the brutal attack on a public meeting held at Singngat Public Ground on February 16, 2022 allegedly by some (SoO Signatory) Underground cadres based in Singngat area.
In a release, the Zou bodies stated that the indiscriminate firing of sophisticated arms and weapons upon the public with malicious intention of foiling and disrupting the Government permitted public meeting of KPA candidates is unfortunate and abominable.
ZOWHRO-UZO also condemned the inhumane treatment meted out to Hangkhanlian, chief of Hiangdung village and the villagers on February 15, 2022 .
"The series of gruesome events on the same night particularly at Muallum village where Thangkhanlun and his family along with some women folk had to bear the brunt of those miscreants, is uncalled for and deserves condemnation from every sensible and right thinking citizen", it added.
It also condemned the forceful and unwilling summon of all the tribal chiefs and villagers within 60-Singhat AC allegedly by ZRO/ZRA through the Singhat Block Chief Association on February 18, 2022 at Zezaw village.
"It is utterly surprising to witness the presence of an Un-Notified UG camp inside St Mary's High School, Behiang, which resulted in subsequent undue public harassment of ZOWHRO members by the UG cadres stationed at the camp", it added.
The Zou bodies appealed to the Government to look into the matter and take positive action to ensure similar incidents do not happen in the future.
ZOWHRO-UZO further urged the Government to take immediate precautionary measures to prevent the escalation of violence and untoward incidents.
