Workshop on biodiversity conservation held

With an aim to save the environment for the future generation, a day-long workshop on biodiversity conservation was organised by Bishnupur Forest Division at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen, Bishnupur on Tuesday.
The inaugural function of the workshop was attended by Bishnupur Municipal Area Biodiversity Management Committee president Th Yaima Singh, who is also the principal of Vishnu Art and Culture Research and Training Centre, Bishnupur as chief guest, Divi sional Forest Officer, Bishnupur Dr Rebika Soibam Chanu as president and Biodiversity Management Committee, Na chou president Dr N Joygandhi Singh as guest of honour.
Delivering the presidential speech, Dr Rebika cautioned all concerned that deforestation has brought about a drastic change in the climatic condition.
Owing to the destruction caused to the natural forests, which play an important role in sustaining livelihood, rainfall has declined considerably, lakes and streams have dried up and people experiencing acute shortage of water, she remarked.
The workshop was attended by students of Kumbi College, SK Women's College (Nambol), Cl College (Bishnupur), Man-golnganbi College (Ningthouk-hong) and Little Flower School along with volunteers of Green Brigade Manipur.
