Imbibing scientific knowledge in piggery farming emphasized

Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Director Dr Ng Ibotombi asserted that imbibing scientific knowledge in piggery farming will enhance the success rate.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of a 3-day training programme on 'Scientific Pig Farming for Increasing Farmers' Income' at the College of Agriculture (COA) conference hall, Iroisemba today.
The training programme is organised by the College under the aegis of All India Coordinated Research Project ( AICRP) on Pig, Manipur Centre, Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal sponsored by ICAR - National Research Centre (NRC) on Pig, Guwahati.
Around 60 participants from different districts across the State are attending the 3-day training programme.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Ng Ibotombi expressed that it is important to acquire adequate knowledge on the feeding, practice care and management of pigs to carry out piggery farming which is a suitable and lucrative form of farming in the Northeastern region.
To take up necessary precautions and prevent unwanted outcomes, a thorough understanding of contagious and deadly diseases of pigs such as African Swine Fever, Classical Swine Fever etc is highly important, he added.
The Director also underscored the need of maintaining proper hygiene of the shelter and breeding places of pigs and timely vaccination of these livestock.
Joint Director, ICAR for NEH Region Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat Dr Arnab Sen and Professor Dr RG Upadhyay COA, CAU Imphal and Assistant Professor & PI (AICRP on Pig), COA, CAU Imphal Dr M Norjit Singh also graced the occasion as the presidium members.
Training manuals and leaflets were also released today.
