MLA Rameshwor reaches out to old age homes

To include senior citizens in the Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba tomorrow, MLA Lourembam Rameshwor and others reached out to old age homes with gifts today.
The Chairman of the Planning and Development Authority (PDA), MLA L Rameshwor and members of Salaicha Peebarel Punsi Marup provided monetary aid and assistance including clothes and edible items to the homes.
They visited and provided assistance to old age homes at Langol Ningthou and Monsangei, Senior Citizens' Home at Kongba Nongthombam Leikai and Raja Dumbra Singh Women's Home at Purana Rajbari.
The homes were provided with bags of rice, potatoes, fresh fishes, onions, edible oil, papad, Yongchak and other vegetables.
The senior citizens at the homes were also given clothes as gifts.
At an old age home, L Rameshwor said that Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba marks the beginning of a New Year and urged every household to join the celebration tomorrow.
" It is part of our culture gifted by our forefathers and this should be conserved and promoted," he said, wishing the people of the State on the auspicious occasion.
Also, wishing for all old age homes across Manipur to celebrate Cheiraoba, he said people should take good care of the senior citizens and include them in the celebration.
"We must not ignore, avoid and abandon our parents when they are old.
They should be cared for and loved.
Some of the aged citizens are in old age homes as they do not have anyone to look after them and no children should abandon their parents at old age homes," Rameshwor said.
L Rameshwor also informed that Cheiraoba will be celebrated at the Manipur Adventure and Allied Sports Institute (MAASI) Complex located at Keirao for the Constituency and everyone may join the celebration.
He also called on the people of the State to give renewed push to the Government's War on Drugs in the New Year.
MLAs of the 60 Assembly Constituencies, all organisations and people of all communities and religion irrespective of their caste should join hands as one to fight drugs, he said.
People as a whole must unite to root out poppy cultivation and all efforts should be action oriented to get results, he said urging all to encourage afforestation.
Keirao Constituency has also taken up steps to curb the problems of drug abuse.
Efforts are on to identify drug abusers and rehabilitate them, said L Rameshwor.
Lastly, he reiterated and called on the people of the State to care for the senior citizens and show love and care for their aged parents.
