Stop sending elders to 'homes': MLA Rameshwar

Keirao MLA Lourem-bam Rameshwar distributed food and gifts to elderly people living in different old age homes in connection with the Cheiraoba festival, which is the traditional New Year of Meetei community.
Interacting with the media on the occasion, the MLA appealed to the people of the state to stop keeping elders in old age homes as if they have nobody to look after them.
The MLA also conveyed greetings for Cheiraoba to the people and appealed to celebrate the festival peacefully.
The aid materials and gift items were sponsored by members of Salaicha Pibarel Punsi Marup, of which the MLA is a patron member.
The MLA and members of Salaicha Pibarel Punsi Marup visited old age homes at Langol, Mongsangei Mayai Leikai, Kongba Nongthombam Leikai and Purana Ra-jbari.
They interacted with the elderly people staying in these homes and conveyed best wishes to them.
While appreciating the support extended by different individuals and organisations to the government's War on Drugs mission, the MLA called for active participation in the mission instead of just giving moral support in order to make it more effective.
He also said that stringent measures will be taken up to fight drug smuggling and abusing in Keirao assembly constituency.
Besides, several steps are being taken up to protect natural environment of the constituency, Rameshwar said while calling for public support in such initiatives.
