'Production of rapeseed-mustard in North-eastern region comparatively low from National average'

The production of rapeseed-mustard in the Northeastern region is very low as compared to the National Average due to limited use of available 'improved technologies' by the farmers.
Dr PK Rai, ICAR - Directorate of Rapeseed-Mustard Research, Bharatpur, Rajasthan Director highlighted the above while speaking as the chief guest at the "Farmers' Field Day" held today at Ithai Barrage Community Hall in Bishnupur district organised by the College of Agriculture, Central Agriculture University (COA, CAU), Imphal.
The programme was held under the sponsorship of NEH Component of All India Co-ordinated Research Projects (AICRP) on Rapeseed � Mustard Scheme, ICAR-Directorate of Rapeseed-Mustard Research, Bharatpur.

In view of the fluctuation in the cultivation of rapeseed-mustard in the State, he maintained that measures have been taken up since 2012-13 to popularise and expand the cultivation area of this high oil yielding rapeseed-mustard variety in Manipur.
He further informed that considering the scope of rapeseed-mustard plantation in the State, special schemes have been designated under NEH component for Manipur and scientists and officials of CAU Imphal are always ready to help the farmers for the cause.
If the production rate of rapeseed-mustard is increased in the Northeastern region, the States of this region will be self reliant thereby enhancing the social and economic status of farmers of this region, he added.
Delivering the presidential address, COA, CAU, Imphal Dean Professor Indira Sarangthem highlighted the importance of inculcating scientific farming methods for enhanced production of this particular oilseed variety.
NEH Component of AICRP (R-M) Scheme, ICAR-Directorate of Rapeseed-Mustard Research, Bharatpur Principal Scientist Dr Bhagirath Ram; Director of Research, CAU, Imphal Professor K Mamocha and Director of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal Professor Ranjit Sharma also attended the programme as the presidium members.
