Vangai Area declared poppy-free

All Vangai Area Chief Association (AVACA) and All Vangai Area Chiefs & V/A Association have pledged to support the government's 'War on Drugs' (WoD) campaign along with declaring Vangai Range, Pherzawl district free from poppy cultivation.
In a joint letter addressed to chief minister N Biren on Tuesday, AVACA president Ch Lalengmawia and VA Association general secretary Tuankhanmang Quite pledged to support 'War on Drugs' campaign to eradicate poppy cultivation from the soil of Manipur and called upon every 'good' citizen to join the campaign and fight for our future generation.
While pointing out that eradicating the drug culture in the state is a must to save the youth of every community, the bodies urged all sections of the society to join the War on Drugs campaign for healthy society and safety of the future generation.
The associations also pointed out that promotion of organic farming would be an alternative means of livelihood to prevent poppy cultivation in the state and suggested that government takes up the initiative of providing highly beneficial training programme.
Further, as Pherzawl district is the largest production of ginger in the state, they asked the state government to arrange for its distribution and marketing of the products.
Therefore, the people of Pherzawl are ready to join and co-operate with any government initiative for this alternative crop if ginger is a choice, it conveyed.
