Imphal, March 21 2023: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday greeted citizens on the eve of Sajibu Cheiraoba and hoped that they bind different communities of India in bonds of love, harmony and affection.

Murmu conveyed her greetings to citizens on the eve of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba, a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

"These festivals, which are celebrated on the arrival of the Indian new year, are symbols of our faith and carriers of our ancient culture.

These festivals of happiness strengthen the spirit of social harmony and brotherhood in our society.

We also express our gratitude to nature through these festivals," she said.

"May these festivals bind different communities of India in bonds of love, harmony and affection and bring happiness and prosperity for all," Murmu said.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and others greeted have also the people on Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba, Manipur's New Year's Day, 2023 .

In her message to the people, Governor Anusuiya Uikey said, New Year is an occasion for the people to rejoice and look forward to the future with hope.

It is time for making resolutions to usher in a year of peace and harmony in the State.

"I also look forward to the New Year as the harbinger for a happy and prosperous life for all the people in the State irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

I am hopeful that the advent of the New Year will further cement the bond of friendship among the different communities in the State.

On the occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba, I urge all to rededicate themselves once again to the promotion of peace and harmony in the State for making a better Manipur," wished the Governor.

Following the Governor, Chief Minister N Biren Singh also greeted the people on the occasion and wished that the New Year may fill people with positivity and zeal to turn dreams into reality and efforts into achievements.

"Let us once again dedicate ourselves to taking Manipur to greater heights.

I wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year," said N Biren in his message.

Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh too wished the people on Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba and said the celebration began during the reign of King Maliya Phambalcha (1359BC-1329 BC) who started the Meitei Calendar year when he ascended the throne at the age of 25 .

The day is observed with piousness and serenity and by preparing traditional cuisine and ritual offering to the Lord, he said wishing the New Year to bring peace, harmony and prosperity.

Textiles Minister Nemcha Kipgen, Water Resources Awangbow Newmai, Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh, MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan, MLA K Robindro also wished the people on New Year.

Several political parties and organisations including Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee, Manipur People's Party, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Manipur Students' Federation and Meetei Erol Eyek Loina Sillol Apunba Lup too greeted the people on New Year's day.

Maj General Rajan Sharawat, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) and all ranks of AR also extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba, the New Year of Meitei Lunar calendar.

May the Lord Almighty bless us all with joy and happiness and guide us in our endeavours towards building a strong and prosperous Manipur State and Nation.
