World Hearing Day observed

The National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness, State Health Society, NHM, Manipur observed World Hearing Day-2023 on the theme 'Ear and hearing care for all: Let's make it a reality' on Tuesday at Indian Medical Association (IMA) hall, Lamphel, here.
The observance function was attended by Health Services director Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar as chief guest and additional director Dr N Hemantakujnar Singh as president while RIMS Otorhinolaryngology Department head Dr Th Sud-hiranjan, CMO, Imphal West Dr L Jaykumar Singh and Deaf & Mute School, Takyel head mistress Nongmai-them Kalpana were present as guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Dr Sasheekumar stressed on the need to address grievances faced by the hearing - impaired for realisation of the goal of a progressive society.
Though there is no official data about the number of hearing-impaired people in the state it is estimated that six out of 1,000 people aged between 1 to 80 years gathered at Khwairamband Keithel alone could be deaf people, he opined.
While conceding that implementation of the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness would not be effective without the support of the people, he said sought the support of all sections of the society to reap the fruit of the programme.
