Imphal, December 11 2022:
In continuation of the protests against the government's decision to legalise liquor in the state; Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA), All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and Mabudhou Mantri Leikai Meira Paibi jointly staged a sit-in protest at Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai on Sunday.
A similar sit-in protest was also staged by CADA in association with Nupi Samaj, Hiyanglam Makha Leikai Meira Paibi and The Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima) at Hiyanglam Makha Leikai, Kakching district on Saturday.
CADA also staged another sit-in protest at Senjam Chirang community hall with Nupi Samaj and Senjam Chirang Kounu Leima Chanura Lup on Sunday.
During the sit-ins, the protestors stated that the legalisation willbe detrimental to the welfare and life of future generations, while adding that the mothers of the state will never accept this move of the government.
Apart from successive governments of the state failing to effectively implement 'The Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991', there are barely any reports of drug lords/kingpins, who often happen to be connected with the powerful and wealthy, of being punished stringently after arrests.
Later, the protestors shouted slogans such as "No legalisation of liquor in Manipur", "Withdraw cabinet's decision" , and "Save the people of Manipur from liquor".
CADA in collaboration with Nupi Samaj, Irengband Apunba Meira Paibi and Thoubal Ima also staged sit-in protest at Irengband community hall in Kakching district on Saturday.
During the sit-in, the protestors shouted slogans like "No to legalisation of liquor in Manipur", "Withdraw cabinet's decision", and "Save the people of Manipur" .
