Govt urged to declare half holiday on Dec 31

Considering the contributions made by Chingsubam Akaba in reviving the Manipuri language and script, Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA) has urged the state government to declare December 31, the death anniversary day of the late leader a state half-holiday.
Talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Sunday, WAMA president Moirangthem Naokhomba recounted that Akaba strived relentlessly to unite the different communities settling in Manipur, in addition to putting his heart and soul into reviving the Manipuri language and script.
His hard work has now paid off as the Meetei Mayek script was included in the school syllabus from class 1 onwards in 2006 and students could now study the indigenous script till the university level, Naokhomba added.
While informing that the 16th death anniversary of Akaba will be observed at the hall of Old Assembly after offering floral tributes at his final resting place at Wakha Leima Ching, the WAMA president appealed all to take part in the tribute event, which will also be attended by MP Leishemba Sanajaoba.
