Anti-poaching drive conducted

Bishnupur, December 11 2022:
Divisional Forest officer (DFO) Bishnupur, Manipur Forest Training School, Ishok Apunba Club and Green Universal Foundation on Saturday jointly conducted its annual anti-poaching drive at Ishok which is located on northern side of Loktak Lake with an aim to raise awareness on protection of wildlife.
The drive was participated by Forest Training School director Laishram Geetla, DFO Bishnupur Dr Rebika Soibam Chanu, range forest officer (RFO), Bishnupur Sukham Ratankumar, RFO, Moirang Hidangmayum Geetchandra, Green Universal Foundation president Dr H Romen, Ishok Apunba Club members, Manipur Forest Training School's 20th batch trainees and DFO Bishnupur staff.
During the drive, the participants were divided into groups and then searched the areas of Ishok Makha Maning Lamjao, Mutum Yangbi and agricultural fields from around 4 am and recovered numerous bird-catching nets with dead birds trapped in them along with rescuing one live bird.
The poachers who were caught during the drive were reprimanded and directed to report to DFO Bishnupur office.
Speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of the drive, DFO Dr Rebika informed that the drive conducted in collaboration with CSOs and environmental activists to protect winter migratory birds coming to the state from poachers will continue in other parts of the district as well.
She further warned that stern action will be taken up against wildlife poachers under Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 and reminded that as birds play vital role in maintaining the ecological balance they should not be harmed in anyway.
