CWRU elects new president, secretary

Churachandpur Working Reporters' Union (CWRU) on Sunday elected new office bearers for a three-year term (2022-2025) at Khomingthang, here.
Alex Guite of "The Imphal Free Press" and Kaimuanthang Mangte of "The People's Chronicle" were respectively elected as new president and general secretary of CWRU through postal ballots cast by all the members of the union.
The election was presided over by CWRU advisers Suanlian Tungnung and Kam-suan while the oath of affirmation was administered to the new executives by Grace Chiinhoihniang, advocate and adviser to the CWRU.
The election ceremony was held during the.Sth anniversary celebratibn of the Union.
The expansion of new office bearers is the prerogative of the newly elected president and general secretary.
Alex Guite, in his presidential address, recalled that the union was established in 2017 by like-minded working journalists operating within the district to cater to the problems faced by the working journalists or reporters and to address them accordingly.
Delivering his keynote address, general secretary Kaimuanthang said that the Union has been working hard for the welfare of the working reporters since its establishment; and so far two CWRU members have availed financial benefits provided to all the working journalists under Paomee Welfare Foundation (PWF).
The general secretary also informed that the proposal for construction of the union's office has been made, adding that the chief minister has also agreed to the proposal in principle and assured the union of all possible help.
The Churachandpur Working Reporters Union is affiliated to the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) .
