Imphal, December 11 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra has demanded that FIRs be registered against those involved in scams related to Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) works in Manipur.
Addressing a press meet held at Congress Bhawan, BT Road, here, on Saturday, Meghachandra informed that Congress recently detected misappropriation of funds sanctioned by the centre to the state under the PMGSY scheme.
The matter was brought to MPCC's attention by Gangte Tribe Council, following which the party inspected the works taken up under PMGSY Work Package no.MN 03101 and MN 03102 for Galkapkot-Gamhui Part-2 and Galkapkot-Gamhui Part-3 respectively, under Thanlon Block in Churachandpur district on November 30.The MPCC president continued that the completion certificates of both projects were issued in 2020, as found during the inspection.
The total cost of the project is around Rs 8.29 crore, which was withdrawn in 2020.However, the most shocking thing is that after the Congress party brought the matter to light, the contractor resumed the project and conveyed to the media that the project would be completed by January next year.
Questioning whether the person(s) involved are taking the people of Manipur as fools by announcing resumption of the work when the completion certificate had already been issued in 2020; Meghachandra said that the RD&PR minister had rejected Congress party's invitation to jointly inspect the project.
Nonetheless, Congress party decided to investigate by itself in the interest of the people and found huge misappropriation of funds that had taken place, he added.
Recounting the present CM s declaration of not sparing any department found embezzling public funds, Meghachandra urged the incumbent government to register an FIR and take up appropriate action against the authority and contractor concerned involved in the PMGSY scam.
