Bishnupur, December 11 2022:
Demanding provision of fertiliser to farmers for Kharif and Rabi crops, farmers of Bishnupur district have warned of launching agitation if the government fails to provide the required fertiliser within five days.
Addressing a press meet here on Sunday, Bishnupur AC fertiliser nominee Kh Abo said that farmers of Kwasiphai, Bishnupur, Nachou, Kha Potsangbam, Upokpi, Toupokpi, Ningthoukhong, Kha Khunou and Thinungei are actively engaged in large scale production of seasonal vegetables and other crops.
Members of Inter-Village Farmers Club submitted a written application explaining about requirement of fertilisers to the agriculture minister by communicating through YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam on October 24.They then approached the director on October 31 after which the director directed the district agriculture officer for ensuring provision of fertiliser to the farmers.
However, the district agriculture officer has been delaying the provision till date, he said.
While pointing out that Bishnupur AC requires 2000 bags of urea for 1016 hectares of farmland, he maintained that denial of fertiliser will result in decrease in production thereby affecting many farmers, who are making a living from their farm produces.
He then demanded the minister concerned and the agriculture director to issue necessary instructions for providing fertiliser to the farmers at the earliest.
Inter-Village Farmers Club president L Premjit was also present at the press meet.
