Kakching, December 11 2022:
Residents of Moirengthel village, which is located in Tengnoupal district close to Mintha town of Myanmar, have welcomed the government's plan to set up a police outpost in the village and appealed to the government to develop the village as a trade centre keeping in view of its potential for cross border trade.
Addressing a press meet held at the village on Sunday, TK Moshipha, who had contested the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Tengnoupal assembly constituency, said that Moirengthel is a potential location for cross border trade just like Moreh and Behiang.
The village is located just next to Mintha town, an important Myanmar town for trade, and one can reach the town from the village just by crossing Taretlok River.
Mintha town has higher trade volume than Namthanlong neighbouring Moreh.
Keep ing in view of the high trade volume in the neighbouring town and close proximity between the two, Moirengthel is a perfect location for cross border trade, he said, while drawing attention of the government for developing a trade centre there.
As of now, border crossing is done by driving vehicles into the river during lean season.
Constructing a bridge will facilitate easier cross border movement thus bringing economic development in the village, he said.
TK Moshipha also termed the government's plan to set up a police outpost in the village as reasonable and said that a fully functional police outpost will help in curbing cross border drug trades and illegal immigrants entering the state.
It will also prevent attempt from Myanmar side to encroach on state land, he said, while urging for early establishment of the police outpost.
