Imphal, February 18 2022:
Terming politicisation of an untoward incident that happened due to Indian National Congress (INC) candidate from Saikul assembly constituency Lhingkim Haokip disrespecting the resolution taken by the people of the locality as very unfortunate, Koirengei Welfare Youth Club (KWYC) has demanded the candidate to clarify on the matter within seven days.
Addressing a press meet held at Koirengei Keithel community hall on Friday, KWYC advisor Heisnam Okendra recounted that the Club had released a press statement on October 11, 2021 informing about the decision of people of the locality against holding any election meeting, organising feast and distribution of money in Polling Station 2/11 area under the Club as a measure to stop frequent fights that were happening in Koirengei area and also for ensuring free and fair conduct of election.
In spite of this resolution, INC candidate Lhingkim Haokip held her flag hoisting ceremony in an area of the locality on February 14.After learning about the flag hoisting ceremony, members of the Club requested the candidate one day before not to organise it referring to the resolution taken by the local people, he pointed out.
H Okendra continued that strangely, the Club members also learnt that the permission for holding the programme at Koirengei in Imphal East district was taken from deputy commissioner Kangpokpi.
Despite the cautioning by the Club in advance, the INC candidate held the programme, without any permission from the locality.
Consequently, Club members went to stop the event but a scuffle broke out between them and the supporters of the candidate started getting violent against the members, he claimed.
Okendra alleged that the incident which happened after Lhingkim Haokip disrespected the decision of the local people is now being politicised by the candidate by terming it as an attack by BJP workers.
If one is settling in the locality then the person should respect the resolution of the people of the locality.
Lhingkim Haokip must clarify on the matter by February 25 and should reach an agreement with the Club, local meira paibi and village authority, failing which the consequences of any unwanted incident that may happen should be borne by the candidate, he further cautioned.
