Imphal, February 18 2022:
Calling Janata Dal - United (JD-U) as a political party formed by candidates rejected by other political parties, Mani-pur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and MLA N Loken has said that JD-U is no match for Congress.
Attending the flag hoisting ceremony of INC candidate for Thangmeiband assembly constituency Hijam Nutanchandra held at the latter's Thingel Maru residence on Friday, Loken said that JD-U's popularity rose after intending candidates, who lost the ticket race of other parties, joined the party and so it is in no condition to match the strength of Congress party.
The only party that could match Congress is BJP and yet BJP will lose the election this time due to their failed policies and governance, he said.
He also said that the probability of winning seats by BJP has been reduced to 12 after almost all of the ticket seekers left the party after they were rejected.
As a result, the party is now trying to retain power by intimidating government employees over the phone, and threatening rival candidates and their workers by using guns and bombs, he alleged.
Hijam Nutanchandra said that Thangmeiband AC has been left out from the benefits of schemes sponsored by the Central and state governments.
The local MLA is focusing only on road renovation and construction of community halls while totally ignoring the economic front, he said.
He also slammed the MLA of hopping from one party to another.
AICC election observer Jairam Ramesh, MPCC vice-president Kh Devabrata, JD-S president K Loken and other party leaders attended the event.
