Zeliangrong Solidarity Day commemorated

Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) observed the 88th commemoration of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day (Chuk-Thoibe/Chuk Thoibo/Chuk-Sumei) at its head office, Kakhulong, Paona Bazar here on April 1.In a release, ZU (AMN) finance secretary Gaipuijai Golmei informed that ZU (AMN) former general secretary P Hemthui led the attendees observing two-minute silent prayer to pay homage to the departed leaders of the organisation.
Speaking bn the occasion, ZU (AMN) secretary (Admin) K Poushinglung recalled that the day is being observed in remembrance of the oath taken by Zeliangrong people on April 1, 1934 to bring a truce and stop the traditional war 'Sangna Rih' between the villages.
Zeliangrong Women's Union (Tamenglong) president Anilu Gangmei, Kabui Mothers' Association president Atongpi and Zeliangrong Women's Union (Senapati) president Meithailu Chawang also emphasised on the need for Zeme, Liangrong, Rongmei/Kabui and Inpui tribes to stand united as one.
The release also conveyed that the main speaker of the function, ZU (AMN) former president Jangamlung Palmei urged for spreading the message of unity and integrity in order to ensure a better future for Zeliangrong people.
He also mentioned that the minority people have no voice in the democratic system as the majority always decide and rules in all matters.
The programme was also attended by ZU (AMN) Apex Customary Court chief justice Adi Remmei, Chaguat Phom/Goodwill Mission convener Sanachao Kamei, ZU (AMN) president Azang Rongmei, vice president Athai Kamei and former acting president Namdon Gangmei and other Zeliangrong leaders, it stated.
ZU (AMN) also released a leaflet 'Background history of ZU nomenclature and the reason for changing of no menclature of Zeliangrong Union (AMN)' to mark the event.
