Helmet-less riders to face Rs 1000 fine

With an objective to ensure public safety and following of traffic rules, traffic police began extracting Rs 1,000 e-challan fine on drivers of two wheelers who do not wear helmet.
A team of Traffic police led by traffic control police additional SP Amakcham Devananda and DSP traffic Thomas Thokchom conducted drive at near MBC crossing on Sunday.
Two-wheeler drivers who were not wearing helmets were fined Rs 1,000 through e-challan.
Such drive will continue in different parts of the state, traffic police informed.
During the drive, a sum of Rs 36,000 was collected in Imphal West and Rs 1,400 in Imphal East.
Speaking in this regard, SP traffic Ajitkumar informed that collecting fine through e-challan will teach a lesson to traffic rule violators.
As it is the season of festivals, there is an increasing number of people coming to markets and subsequently leading to increase in traffic volume.
The drive is being conducted so as to prevent road accidents in Imphal city, he informed.
The police officer appealed to the people to drive safely, wear helmet while driving two wheelers, park vehicles at designated places, possess required documents, not to hand over vehicles to underage and to strictly follow traffic rules.
Pointing out that park ing of vehicles in front of shops in Thangal and Paona Bazar causes congestion, Ajitkumar urged the people to park their vehicles above Naga Nala and further exhorted to co-operate in the initiative being taken up by traffic police.
