Imphal, April 03 2022:
Eenat Yokkhat Lup (EYL) has said that there is no traditional attire called 'Khamen Chatpa' but it should be 'Kamu Chappa' .
EYL said this in a statement issued today following a press release issued by Directorate of Handlooms and Textile, Lamphelpat on March 14 wherein it was stated that the directorate is working towards getting GI tag for 'Khamen Chatpa' .
Soibam Pibaren, general secretary EYL, said EYL welcomes the step being taken up by the directorate to get GI tag for such an important piece of attire which has immense historical as well as cultural values, but the only concern was that the name being used is a common mistake and it should be 'Kamu Chappa' instead of 'Khamen Chatpa' .
EYL has decided to put a ban on any unregulated used of 'Kamu Chappa' by individuals as this special attire has its right time and place to be used, Pibaren added in the statement.
EYL further urged the Government to take necessary action to rectify the mistake.
