26th Yubi Lakpi Yendamnaba held

In keeping with their tradition of organising "Yubi Lakpi Yendamnaba" every year on the occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba, City Club Heirok organised the '26th Yubi Lakpi Yendambaba' on Saturday at the grounds of City Club, Heirok Part-II Litan Makhong along with the presentation of various cultural programmes and a tug-of-war game.
It may be noted that the annual hosting of Yubi Lakpi Yendambaba has been carried out with the goal of preserving indigenous games which are slowly inching towards the brink of extinction.
The event was graced by Ningthoujam Gopen Meitei as the chief guest, Joychandra Konthoujam, president UCM; Brinda Thounaojam, social activist; N Ibomcha, president City Club Heirok; Th Manihar, president NIPCO; Hijam Priyokumar, president CADA; Dr Pibarel Meitei, Managing Director, Medilane; Th Premjit, Pradhan nominee of Heirok Part-II Gram Panchayat; L Khamba, Pradhan, Heirok Part-I GP and H Manichandra, Pradhan Wangbal GP as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Joykumar Konthoujam commended City Club Heirok's attempt at preserving indigenous games and asserted that "it is our duty to preserve the indigenous games of our forefathers" .
He also called for these unique games to be introduced to international audiences.
Social activist Brinda Thounaojam said that Manipuri society is at the point where people are slowly forgetting their culture, origin and history.
Indigenous games like Yubi Lakpi, Sagol Kangjei, Mukna etc are gradually disappearing and this points at the Meetei community's slow decline, she added.
Brinda Thounaojam further called for intensified efforts to preserve the indigenous games of Manipur.
During the day's game of Yubi Lakpi, Ningthoujam Loyumba, a player of Fine Society Club Heirok, successfully scored a goal and was presented with a traditional 'kokyet' by the chief guest Ningthoujam Gopen Meitei.
