Seminar on Khoi Mayek organised

Kangleipak Women's Welfare Association (KWWA) organised a one-day seminar on Khoi Mayek' (hook pattern) on Phanek (traditional sarong worn by women of Manipur) at GM Hall here Sunday.
Delivering the key note speech, KWWA general secretary Subhasini Irom pointed out that different communities across the globe are working continuously to protect their traditional customs and attires, amidst the huge changes brought on by globalisation and technological advancement.
Observing the effects brought onto the state s rich cultural heritage and tradition by the global changes, the seminar was organised with the aim of helping to preserve one such cultural facet of the Meetei community, Subhasini said.
During the seminar which was attended by CCSK president Jitendra Ningomba as observer, social activist Iboyaima Mangang spoke on the "Khoi Mayek" pattern woven on "Kanglei Phanek ; Manipur University of Culture assistant professor Dr Nganbi Chanu on the attires worn by unmarried and married Kanglei women; and national awardee Sagolsem Jibanmala Devi on how to save and promote "Kanglei Phanek Mayek Naibi" as resource persons.
