Imphal, September 15 2021:
A drinking water ATM booth opened under Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) by PMAGY Village Convergence Committee at Phayeng Heiyu ground has been inaugurated by Imphal West district deputy commissioner Th Kirankumar on Wednesday.
The programme was also attended by Phayeng Gram Panchayat pradhan Angom Shyamasakhi as the functional president, Haorang Sabal CD Block Imphal West block development officer Karam Uma as guest of honour along with Phayeng village chief N Toyai.
Speaking on the occasion, Kirankumar informed that PMAGY is a scheme of the Union Ministry of Social Justice under which funds from various centrally sponsored schemes for rural areas are utilised for implementation of PMAGY in villages where at least 50 per cent of its population constitutes Scheduled Caste.
He also called upon the villagers to form a committee with inclusion of members from local club, meira paibi activists or GP for long-term running of the water ATM booth.
If such schemes are successfully implemented, it will encourage the government to take up more developmental and welfare projects for the village, the DC said and exhorted the Phayeng locals to become a model for others to follow.
Phayeng GP pradhan Angom Shyamasakhi mentioned that the village though located very near to Singda Dam has no water supply facility and this has been a bone of contention among the villagers.
As such, the scheme was taken up to provide potable water to the villagers, she said.
A non-government water supply scheme has been taken up in Phayeng which uses the local forest as catchment area to source the scheme.
The water for the ATM booth is supplied by water supply scheme and made usable through proper processing, she informed.
